Tide Pavilion

A public arcade on the river front — a rhythm of white arches that frames the water and gives the promenade a place to pause.

The project

The project

The brief

The city asked for shade, seating and a small events space on a stretch of the river where people walk past but never stop.

The idea

Eighteen arches in white-pigmented concrete, set on a two-metre grid. Each bay frames a different slice of the river; together they make a long, cool room open on both sides.

Since opening

The arcade hosts a Sunday market, a summer cinema and, most days, people simply sitting with their backs to the columns watching the tide.
